Girl Power: Eunice

Description

I went back and colored Eunice to celebrate her return on Simian Says. As you notcie I put her in her Primus outfit. It made it easier to color.

I had a bit of fun having Eunice with a couple of Primus creatures instead of Earth animals. I don't know what is the real size of both these creatures. I figured the butterfly might be much larger than a normal butterfly. The strange opossum is about the size of a small cat.

Both those animals were in the opening shot of Simian Says.

In defense of Eunice here is the last Q&A I had with Dwayne Mc Duffie before he died.

1. I asked the whole Supergirl and princess thing partly because the term
"Mary Sue" has been used by some describe Eunice. Is that a fair
description?

1. Except she's not remotely a princess, and while she has powers, they
aren't remotely Supergirl level. Supergirl doesn't need Ben Tennyson's help
to take out Sunder. Sunder would run from Supergirl.

A "Mary Sue," to my understanding, is a character inserted into an existing
franchise via fan fiction who is too good to be true, and who shines at the
expense of the established cast. Eunice is a guest character in the actual
Ben 10 franchise. Moreover, she is a flawed character who requires the help
of the protagonist and his team to survive an attack, discover her origins,
and gain a purpose. No, it's not remotely a fair description, as it's prima
facie inaccurate. Used outside the realm of fan fiction, Mary Sue seems to
be so broad a category that it encompasses any guest star in any continuing
series, as well as every *protagonist.*

Consider that in Sherlock Holmes, if it were fan fiction, Irene Adler,
Mycroft, Watson, and Sherlock himself would all fit under various
definitions of Mary Sue. I recently ran across a serious forum discussion of
whether *Batman* is a Mary Sue in Batman stories. How is this a useful
concept? Does Mary Sue mean "either the protagonist of a series, or anyone
the protagonist meets who is remotely interesting"?

Near as I can figure, to some fans, "Mary Sue" is shorthand for "I don't
like her." They should just say so, rather than misuse their new vocabulary
from "TV Tropes."

I have asked Eugene Son the same question and will add his response later.

Eunice is the property of Cartoon Network. Ben 10 is created by Man of Action
